About The Position

Persons in this position must have a minimum of high school diploma (or GED) and be either an Associate Professional/Paraprofessional or a NC Certified Peer Support Specialist. Peer Support Staff work directly with individuals who have mental health, developmental disability, and/or substance abuse issues. The Peer Support Staff maintains communication with the qualified professional and/or supervisor regarding consumer treatment or concerns, understands and facilitates a person-centered approach to treatment, implements interventions aimed at achieving individualized goals as written in the Person-Centered Plan. Peer Support staff provide services and interventions in various locations, depending on the consumer's treatment plan and needs. Some duties may include teaching problem solving skills and positive alternatives to inappropriate behaviors and coping skills. Provides consumers with clear consistent expectations and outlines potential consequences. Encourages consumers to take responsibility for their own actions; Plans, organizes and participates with consumer in therapeutic activities designed to improve emotional, vocational, educational, and social functioning. Ensures activities are age appropriate, promote cultural diversity, and are designed to meet treatment support needs. Teaches such skills as daily living skills, appropriate social skills, adaptation skills, health and wellness, development of leisure interests, work readiness, money management, budgeting, symptom management, etc. Provides transportation to appointments, programs, and scheduled activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma (or GED)
  • Either an Associate Professional/Paraprofessional or a NC Certified Peer Support Specialist
  • Must maintain a valid North Carolina’s driver’s license
  • Must maintain vehicle liability insurance
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets PRIDE IN NORTH CAROLINA, LLC. requirements.
