About The Position

Second Chances Comprehensive Services LLC is a compassionate, CARF-accredited organization dedicated to serving at-risk youth and individuals within our communities. Our mission is rooted in reducing risk factors, addressing health and safety concerns, and delivering the highest quality of mental health care. We proudly serve communities throughout Hopewell, Virginia Beach, Chester, and Emporia, Virginia, providing comprehensive, community-based services designed to empower individuals and strengthen family systems. At Second Chances, we believe in fostering independence, promoting stability, and helping individuals achieve the mental wellness needed for a meaningful “second chance” at life. Second Chances Comprehensive Services is seeking a dedicated and reliable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support individuals with mental health and developmental needs. The DSP plays a critical role in implementing individualized treatment and behavioral support plans, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and structured environment. Services are provided across various settings including group homes, private residences, and community-based environments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • CPR and First Aid required (or willingness to obtain)
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to successfully pass all required background checks (including DSS and fingerprinting)
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods
  • Capability to lift or assist individuals up to 50 lbs
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including evenings, overnight, weekends, and holiday

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education in Human Services or related field preferred
  • TOVA and medication administration training preferred or provided

Responsibilities

  • Teach and reinforce daily living skills including budgeting, cooking, and social interaction
  • Support clients in achieving individualized goals outlined in service plans
  • Implement behavior intervention plans
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis management strategies
  • Assist with personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing
  • Support meal preparation and medication administration as applicable
  • Facilitate participation in community activities, employment, and social engagements
  • Promote independence and social inclusion
  • Advocate for client rights and well-being
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including progress notes
