Hazardous Waste Assistant
About The Position
Performs non-technical processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Candidates must pass a drug screen, criminal background check, and fitness-for-duty test that includes a pulmonary function test. The role has no supervisory responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The position requires basic computer operation, the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and the ability to perform basic arithmetic with American weight, volume, and distance measurements. It is included in the Hearing Conservation Program.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Basic computer operation skills.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions and address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with tens and hundreds, and perform these operations using American weight, volume, and distance measurements.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must pass a drug screen, criminal background check, and fitness-for-duty test that includes a pulmonary function test.
- Must demonstrate competencies including problem solving, technical skills, customer service, interpersonal communication, teamwork, organizational skills, sound judgment, professionalism, quality and productivity, safety awareness, adaptability, attendance, dependability, initiative, and ethical conduct.
Responsibilities
- Operate an industrial shredder, extractor, compacter, aerosol puncture device, and drum washer.
- Sort non-hazardous waste, including batteries, light bulbs, and household paint.
- De-package and sort consumer products.
- Pump bulk liquids into tanks or tankers.
- Load and unload trucks using hand carts or barrel carts.
- Occasionally participate in Household Hazardous Waste Collections at customer sites.
