About The Position

The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, Household Hazardous Waste Section, is seeking applications for the position of Hazardous Materials Technician - PSE. These roles involve the safe collection, sorting, and transportation of hazardous waste in accordance with established guidelines and codes. Technicians will work weekends and outdoors in various weather conditions to fulfill their duties. They will also support other staff in hazardous waste management, inspection activities, and at community events. The Household Hazardous Waste Section is dedicated to providing safe and efficient hazardous waste management services to protect health, natural resources, and the environment, offering fast and friendly service to County residents and small businesses.

Requirements

• Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid California Class C Driver license.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Duties require constant bending, lifting, and standing for long periods of time.
• Must be able to work outdoors on a continuous basis, in extreme weather, including sun, rain, wind, high heat, humidity, etc.
• A successful background check is required prior to assignment.

Nice To Haves

• Must successfully complete the 24-hour HAZWOPER and 8-hour DOT training classes within six (6) months from the date of hire.
• Must successfully complete other program related training, such as program vehicles operation, within six (6) months from the date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Handling hazardous waste to collect, sort, and transport in a safe manner, following established guidelines and codes.
• Assisting other staff in hazardous waste management and inspection activities.
• Assisting at community events.
