About The Position

Global- a 1st Flagship Company, a woman-owned small business, is a leader in Marine Support Services and Emergency Management. As the Department of Navy's trusted Prime Contractor since 1964, they manage, operate, and maintain the U.S. Navy Inactive Ship fleet. This role involves working on military vessels such as destroyers and aircraft carriers.

Requirements

  • Shall have a working knowledge of various safety, environmental, hazardous material and hazardous waste regulations to ensure that safety and environmental laws are adhered to.
  • Two years of education related to hazardous material career field and two (2) years of relevant hazardous material experience or relevant experience in the military.
  • Must have general computer skills and Microsoft Office program skills.
  • Must have a current driver's license and meet the requirements of the company's Vehicle Safety manual.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the following qualifications/certifications within specified time period per Offer Letter: Shipyard Competent Person (gas-free) certification, AHERA Building Inspector Certification, 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification, Forklift operator, Medically qualified and able to wear a negative pressure respirator.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field, and two (2) years of education related to the hazardous material career field and two-years of relevant hazardous material experience or relevant experience in the military.
  • OSHA 10-hr. and 30 hr. Maritime Card.
  • Trained in sampling and analysis of wastewater per OPNAVINST 5090.1(series).

Responsibilities

  • Conducts monthly and annual vessel and facility Workplace Safety/Hazard Inspections.
  • Conducts daily waterfront inspections for safety and environmental hazards.
  • Identifies workplace hazards and conditions and takes appropriate action to ensure a safe workplace.
  • Investigates, prepares, and forwards reports on Safety and Environmental related accidents and near-misses.
  • Conducts hot work inspections and safety inspections of oil, hazmat, ballast and rainwater pumping operations.
  • Conducts safety and environmental inspections of asbestos and preservation operations.
  • Conducts atmospheric testing for safe personnel entry and hot work in enclosed and confined spaces.
  • Identifies, collects and performs sampling and analysis of hazardous materials and waste such as oil, oily water, asbestos, PCBs, lead and mercury.
  • Conducts heat stress monitoring and noise surveys.
  • Identify and repair shipboard insulation discrepancies.
  • Perform shipboard mold abatement.
  • Responsible for the facility's hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage and disposal, including operating the Hazardous Waste Accumulation Area.
  • Responsible for pre-designation of waste prior to generation and disposal.
  • Prepares reports of safety inspections and discrepancies.
