Haul Truck Operator
About The Position
Responsible for safely and efficiently operating off-highway haul trucks to transport crushed stone, sand and gravel, and other materials within quarries, pits, yards, and/or plants. The operator drives rigid-frame and/or articulated haul trucks of varying sizes, ensuring efficient and safe material movement while following Vulcan and government rules and regulations. The role involves completing truck inspections and basic maintenance checks, reporting maintenance needs and safety concerns, and collaborating with maintenance teams on repairs and preventive maintenance. In some instances, the operator must wash the truck using a high-pressure hose, steam cleaner, or pressure washer to facilitate a thorough inspection. The position requires safe equipment operation, accurate records and paperwork, and compliance with safety protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE and following MSHA/OSHA regulations.
Requirements
- Typically less than 2 years of experience operating off-road trucks in a commercial setting.
- Proven experience operating off-road equipment.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently in various conditions.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with others and manage time effectively.
- Ability to sit for extended periods, withstand vibrations, and operate controls with precision.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to climb ladders while maintaining three points of contact and sit for long periods.
- Ability to recognize and follow safety protocols, identify potential hazards, and take steps to mitigate risks.
- Basic mechanical understanding of equipment, including maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues; ability to identify signs of equipment malfunction and report them.
- Ability to communicate clearly, listen actively, and work effectively with other operators and ground personnel.

Responsibilities
- Operate off-road haul trucks to transport material within Vulcan facilities.
- Understand truck controls and functions, including air brakes, emergency procedures, and safe operating practices as applicable.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Perform basic truck maintenance checks, including checking fluid levels, functionality, and tire pressure.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams on repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Wash the haul truck when required using a high-pressure hose, steam cleaner, or pressure washer to facilitate inspection.
- Perform basic hauling tasks under direct supervision and develop safe driving habits and efficient hauling practices.
- Maintain accurate records of materials hauled and dump locations; complete necessary paperwork and inspection records.
- Follow safety regulations and protocols, wear required PPE, and comply with MSHA/OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a safe driving record and situational awareness to prevent accidents and protect self and others.
- Promptly report safety concerns, incidents, and equipment malfunctions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
