About The Position

This position is responsible for various tasks within the hatchery, including handling chick boxes, moving baskets of chicks, placing chicks onto a belt, and managing trays. The role also involves environmental monitoring, cleaning, and potentially euthanasia of birds. Adherence to biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety protocols is crucial. The job requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various environmental conditions and use specific tools and personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months.
  • Must have a point level <= 6 attendance points.
  • Must have 6 months in current area unless promoting, then less than 6 months in current area is allowable.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly lift and stack chick boxes (wheeled dolly) weighing up to 12 pounds.
  • Will regularly be required to push or pull stacks of boxes up to 125 pounds.
  • Will regularly be required to pull/push 700 to 1300 pounds (wheeled dolly).
  • Must regularly be required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor).
  • Must regularly be required to walk.
  • Must regularly be required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Must regularly be required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must regularly be required to balance.
  • Must regularly be required to stoop.
  • Must regularly be required to talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Pads up to 1500 empty chick boxes weighing approximately 2 pounds.
  • Lifts boxes of 100 chicks weighing approximately 15 pounds and stacks them into stacks of 10, 1500 times.
  • Pushes 10 stacked boxes with birds averaging 15 pounds per box into a row approximately 150 times.
  • Push/pull hatcher baskets on casters full of chicks into Pull Room weighing approximately 500 – 1000 pounds.
  • Places up to 150,000 chicks weighing approximately 40 grams onto a belt.
  • Takes hatcher baskets off stacks of 15 high, each basket weighing approximately 35 pounds, which requires overhead lifting.
  • Puts empty trays (48 inches x 16.8 inches) weighing approximately 6.25 pounds into a tray wash machine.
  • Takes clean, empty trays out of the tray washer and restacks them into stacks of 15 high approximately 1300 times.
  • Reads temperatures and turn failures in setters and reads temperature and humidity in incubators every three hours.
  • Washes and foams pull and traywash rooms using a high-pressure hose and regular water hose.
  • Pulls loaded setter buggies on casters weighing approximately 700-1300 pounds.
  • Operates box washer.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Properly euthanizes weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy.
  • Follows all applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Identifies, addresses, and mitigates safety-related risks.
