About The Position

This position is responsible for the pulling of chicks and preparing chicks for processing; properly disposing of substandard chicks; washing and disinfecting of the pull room. Also responsible for cleaning and sanitizing hatchery areas including chick room, main hall. Remove chicks from hatchers when ready to process. Monitor hatchers and setters and evaluating chicks prior to shipments. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months, a point level </= 6 attendance points and 6 months in current area unless the TM is promoting, then less than 6 months in current area is allowable.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly push or pull 500 lbs. and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • While performing the duties if this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift on a concrete floor; walk; sit’ and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bend over; talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth per caption; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dust, wet and cold environments.
  • Safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, ear muffs and/or ear plugs, and rubber boots are required when handling chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all certification requirements for wearing a full face respirator (PFT and RFT). Respirator certification is required and maintained by testing on an annual basis. Must be willing to achieve and maintain a respirator certification: TM’s must remain clean shaven during all scheduled work hours.
  • Pitches chickens onto belt.
  • Must take hatcher basket off stack of 15 high. Each basket weighs 20-25 lbs.
  • Run chick counter and place papers in chick boxes.
  • Monitor machines, sort through boxes and ensure shipment of healthy birds. (70%)
  • Operating a high pressure and regular water hose; cleaning/sanitizing lids and dollies, setting eggs, prepping chick room; pitching chicks onto belt and stacking/unstacking hatcher baskets; and cleaning/sanitizing chick room and hall, maintaining a clean and organized work area. (30%)
  • The jobsite is a bio secure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
