About The Position

This role is responsible for overseeing hatchery operations, including vaccine administration, data recording, and ensuring the accuracy of chick counts and hatching percentages. The Hatchery Lead will also perform various processing duties and maintain equipment cleanliness. The position requires the ability to work independently, follow procedures, and collaborate effectively with team members.

Requirements

• Working familiarity with assigned equipment and materials, or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate with others effectively.
• Physical strength and ability to perform light to moderate manual labor, including frequent bending, walking, and lifting.
• Ability to lift 30lbs frequently and 50lbs occasionally.
• Stamina to maintain continuous physical effort for the duration of the shift on a regular basis.
• Highly self-motivated and able to follow established procedures and meet standards while working unsupervised.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to use sound judgment to solve problems and make safe decisions independently.
• Ability to read and interpret labels on Hatchery chemicals, supplies, and vaccines.

• Ability to use syringes and needles correctly to mix vaccine.

Responsibilities

• Mix vaccine using syringes and needles.
• Set up, clean, and maintain vaccine stations and the vaccine room.
• Count and record data for chick boxes, calculate averages.
• Count cull birds and record the numbers.
• Record the number of chicks hatched per flock, calculate and record hatching percentages and daily totals.
• Predict chick hatches and averages to prepare for the next day's operations.
• Send recorded information to Grow-out.
• Perform duties of First shift processing, Box Room operator, and Wash Room Operator.
• Clean all processing equipment.
• Perform duties of higher classified positions occasionally as assigned.
• Adjust duties as demanded by business, as directed by the Hatchery Manager.
