About The Position
Under the direction of the assigned Program Clinical Supervisor or Manager, the Harm Reduction Specialist is responsible for providing harm reduction education and outreach, including naloxone distribution, HIV and Hepatitis C prevention, and safer sex practices, to consumers in the Syringe Exchange Program.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent plus at least 1 year of related knowledge and experience in working with individuals presenting with substance use, harm reduction, and/or behavioral health disorders is required.
- Must maintain a current driver's license and have a clean driving record.
Responsibilities
- Processes incoming referrals and schedules intake visits.
- Completes intake assessments for CRSEP program, including basic demographic information.
- Monitors and orders supplies as needed and disposes of biohazard waste according to established procedures.
- Coordinates syringe exchanges, including updating drop-box codes as needed.
- Provides outreach and education regarding naloxone distribution, HIV and Hepatitis C prevention and safer sex practice to consumers.
- Provides HIV and Hepatitis C screenings as appropriate, makes referrals for follow up as needed, and maintains records of results.
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, establishes positive public relations and interacts effectively with a diverse array of professionals and consumers.
- Required to travel in own vehicle throughout the state for agency-related business.
