About The Position

The Hardware Engineer V will be part of an engineering team developing extensive power electronics and battery systems expertise. The Hardware Engineer V will participate in the development of electrical architecture and design, integration and debugging of new electrical hardware and validation of the design in a structured engineering environment. The qualified individual will be responsible for documentation of the design changes, supporting the transition of new designs into manufacturing, as well as solving complex engineering problems associated with new product introduction. This role will work onsite at ZincFive headquarters in Tualatin, Oregon, and reports to the Technical Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience with power electronics, board-level circuit design and simulation, and analog and digital circuit design
  • Experience working with voltages up to 600Vdc
  • Experience designing and debugging systems with microcontrollers
  • Knowledge of serial communications protocols and hardware interfaces, including I2C and CAN
  • Proven experience in analog circuit design, electronic noise reduction and filtering techniques
  • Proficient in using hardware debugging tools, test equipment, and oscilloscopes
  • Experience designing for FCC and CE compliance
  • Experience designing for UL compliance
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver on time in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as needed
  • Requires proven experience with microcontrollers
  • Requires developing designs using Altium Designer Suite
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage the electrical requirements and specifications
  • Document the design architecture and formal design synthesis
  • Model and simulate the performance of electrical circuits
  • Electrical schematic capture and BOM maintenance
  • Component selection to meet requirements for uninterruptible power supply systems (UPS) for industrial applications
  • Work with the mechanical engineering department to develop circuit designs to support required functionality and meet requirements for size, weight, and power
  • PCB layout for EMI/EMC compliance and manufacturability.
  • Participate and lead design reviews
  • Participate in failure root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Perform hardware design verification and validation testing and resolve design flaws or performance issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical expertise to ensure product performance and functionality meets requirements
  • Develop production validation and product acceptance test criteria to support transition into manufacturing
  • Scoping project effort and stay on schedule
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians
