About The Position

Trimble is hiring a Hardware Development Engineer for its Sunnyvale, California team to develop high-performance embedded aviation GPS navigation receivers. The role manages the lifecycle development, implementation, testing, and verification of circuit card assemblies and programmable logic across digital, RF, power, and mechanical subsystems. The engineer supports products from initial concept through end of life, including proposals, development validation, new product introduction, engineering changes, sustaining engineering, manufacturing problem resolution, and quality issues. The position involves leading hardware development from conceptualization through production, designing and testing complex systems for aviation environments, and managing full-scale development activities such as schematic capture, layout, board bring-up, and specification documentation. The engineer also addresses legacy-product issues, manages configuration control and production transitions, and works with certification and quality teams to meet development-assurance and quality standards. Trimble Military Advanced Systems develops positioning, navigation, and timing technologies, including GPS receivers and related solutions, primarily for federal defense, military, and national-security applications. The position is office-based in Sunnyvale, California; relocation is welcomed. Active U.S. citizenship is required, and the candidate must be able to obtain a Secret DOD security clearance.

  • Ability to scope FPGA resources and perform circuit simulations.
  • Hardware bring-up experience and expertise in Board Support Package (BSP) development for CISC/RISC CPU-based systems and microcontroller subsystems.
  • Meticulous record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of memory and peripheral systems at 200 MHz or higher, SERDES, or equivalent high-speed interconnects.
  • Experience with complex power-supply control architectures and microcontroller programming.
  • Knowledge of RF development and performance challenges, including isolation, crosstalk, and interference.
  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Active U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DOD security clearance; applicants must indicate citizenship and any previous DOD security-clearance activity.

Responsibilities
