About The Position

Treeswift is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Hardware Assembly Technician to help build, assemble, and test hardware systems at its Midtown Manhattan facility. The technician will work directly with the engineering team on products combining LiDAR, cameras, sensors, electronics, and mechanical components. The role also supports engineers with CAD modeling, mechanical design modifications, and preparation of parts for fabrication and assembly. The position combines computer-based design and modification of components with physical hardware building and testing. An engineering degree or extensive experience is not required; dependability, care, mechanical aptitude, and eagerness to learn are valued. The role requires working on-site in Midtown Manhattan.

Requirements

  • Natural aptitude for building, assembling, or fixing things and an interest in hands-on work.
  • Practical experience creating and modifying 3D models in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, or similar CAD software.
  • Detail-oriented, patient, and committed to high-quality work.
  • Comfortable using basic hand tools and following step-by-step instructions.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently once trained.
  • Comfortable asking questions and flagging problems.
  • Able to work on-site at the Midtown Manhattan location.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronics assembly, wiring, soldering, or electromechanical systems.
  • Experience building computers, robots, drones, or other hardware projects.
  • Experience with 3D printing or mechanical prototyping.
  • Experience creating technical drawings or working with mechanical tolerances.
  • Experience in manufacturing, quality control, or hardware testing.
  • Technical school, engineering coursework, maker projects, or similar hands-on hobbies.
  • Previous professional hardware assembly experience; it is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble hardware systems using mechanical, electrical, and electronic components, including sensors, cameras, LiDAR, and power systems.
  • Create and modify 3D CAD models of mechanical parts, mounts, brackets, enclosures, and assemblies using software such as Onshape.
  • Work with engineers to make CAD revisions, update designs, and prepare parts for 3D printing or fabrication.
  • Follow assembly instructions, technical documentation, and build checklists to ensure consistent quality.
  • Install, mount, connect, and secure components using hand tools and basic power tools.
  • Inspect and test completed assemblies to identify defects, troubleshoot issues, and verify functionality.
  • Work with engineers to resolve assembly challenges and improve build processes.
  • Organize components, tools, and workstations to keep production running smoothly.
  • Take ownership of builds and ensure each system meets quality standards before deployment.
