A Hardscape Team Technician is an experienced team member in hardscape construction that performs tasks such as: pavement systems (stone and pavers), retaining walls, water features, low-voltage lighting, utilities, concrete, carpentry and stonework. A Hardscape Team Technician is able to technically operate a variety of equipment and has basic knowledge in construction means, methods, techniques.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED
  • Two years of documented experience in the green industry
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management
  • Great analytical problem solving and decision making ability
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionals
  • Ability to use Google translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish speaking workers
  • Ability to drive truck & trailer combinations
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record
  • VDACS Registered Tech Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Responsibilities

  • Review job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on daily basis
  • Read, measure, and interpret landscape, architectural, and civil plans
  • Perform landscape bed installation and maintenance
  • Perform horticulturally correct tree/shrub/perennial pruning and dead heading
  • Perform proper installation, controller programming, minor irrigation repairs, and seasonal adjustment of irrigation systems
  • Perform installation of water features
  • Perform proper installation of low-voltage lighting systems, controller programming, repair and replacement of lighting system components
  • Perform installation of drainage pipe, drain boxes, drainage channels, dry creek beds, and swales
  • Use machinery, hand tools, and grade measuring tools to properly excavate, contour, shape, and fine grade soil to achieve desired look and function
  • Perform new install plant and turf watering
  • Perform plant identification, bed preparation, proper plant installation, layout, care and maintenance
  • Perform spring clean-ups including bed cleanout, bed edging, pre-emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation
  • Perform installation of interlocking concrete pavers
  • Perform installation of retaining walls using segmental retaining walls, boulders and natural stone
  • Perform installation of stepping stones and steps using natural stone
  • Mix and prepare mortar for wet lay applications including firepits, fireplaces, flagstone patios, coping stone, capstones, cobblestone edging, and grouting
  • Demonstrate knowledge of different concrete mixes and applications used for footings, mud slabs, and broom finish and ability to install each application
  • Identify utility markings, call in a utility locate, and update an existing ticket
  • Use handheld or backpack blower to blow off all hard surfaces
  • Perform snow removal
  • Operate small and medium duty tools and equipment including but not limited to: compact track loaders, track loader, mini-excavator, pressure washer, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, string trimmer, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader, zip level, tape measure, cordless & hammer drill, sawzall, plumb bob, level, gas/electric water pumps, architectural and engineers scale
  • Identify enhancement ideas to improve client property and submits to team leader
  • Learn and maintain a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities, and know the limits of work
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site
  • Ensure truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained
  • Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standard
  • Responsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairs
  • Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance
  • Works as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude
  • Knows and supports the company’s vision, mission, and core values
  • Assist team leader with training and coaching a team of two or more team members to help develop their skills & ensure team members receive proper training
