About The Position

This position is Monday- Thursday 3pm-1am. The objective is to saw wood planks and fiber board for hardwood sample boards and chips for Mezz in accordance with production needs. Responsibilities include receiving traveler forms, retrieving appropriate wood boxes, verifying sizes and quantities, setting saws for correct cuts, and maintaining accurate production numbers on an Excel spreadsheet. The operator will also operate a Rip Saw, Router, and Vertical Saw, ensuring precise measurements and clean routing. They must be able to identify and report dull saw blades, read a tape measurer, and notify the Lead of any unusable wood due to damage or off-quality. Operators are responsible for placing a green dot sticker on partially filled boxes, using sandpaper to smooth rough edges, and reporting any suspected misidentification of wood to the Samples QC group by completing a Quality Non-Conformance form. They must also pull and confirm QC standard boards before processing work orders and return them upon completion. Waste materials should be placed in appropriate receptacles. Basic computer operation knowledge is required.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate Vertical Saw, including making accurate measurements and set-ups.
  • Ability to retrieve fiber board sheets up to 4’ x 8’.
  • Ability to notify Lead if saw blade becomes dull.
  • Ability to read a tape measurer.
  • Ability to notify Lead of unusable wood due to damage or off-quality.
  • Ability to place unusable wood on a designated buggy.
  • Ability to place green dot sticker on partially filled boxes.
  • Ability to use sandpaper to smooth edges.
  • Ability to notify Samples QC group and complete a Quality Non-Conformance form for misidentified wood.
  • Ability to pull and confirm QC standard boards.
  • Ability to place waste in appropriate receptacles.
  • Basic knowledge of computer operation.

Responsibilities

  • Receive traveler form Lead or Coordinator.
  • Retrieve appropriate style / color wood boxes from storage bins.
  • Verify board size, plank size for correct size and amount.
  • Set saw so correct length plank is cut.
  • Periodically measure swatch size to ensure that plank being cut is correct size.
  • Trim leading edge to remove tongue and groove.
  • Cut the correct swatch or strip size and quantity as specified on traveler.
  • Maintain accurate production numbers on computer on Excel spreadsheet by scanning w/o before processing of w/o begins and upon completion of w/o.
  • Operate Rip Saw. Be able to work on side of saw where panels are loaded into saw. Set-up saw so panel is ripped to exact width specifications. Be able to work on back side, or receiving, side of saw and pull panels out after they have been ripped. Neatly stack panels onto pallet.
  • Operate Router. Be able to work on side of Router where panels are lifted and placed into template to be routed. Panel must be clamped down on left and right side. Be able to operate Router and cleanly route handle hole in panel.
  • Operate Vertical Saw. Must be able to make accurate measurements and set up saw to specified sizes for required cut dimensions. Retrieve fiber board sheets measuring up to 4’ x 8’ in size.
  • Make Lead aware if saw blade becomes dull.
  • Must be able to read a tape measurer.
  • While sawing wood planks, if all or any part of a plank is unable to be used due to damage, off-quality, etc., the operator will notify the Lead.
  • If a wood is brought to the saw to be processed yet none of it can be used due to damage, off-quality, etc., The Saw operator should place the wood on a designated buggy within the department.
  • Place green dot sticker on the end of any partially filled (open) box of product (i.e. wood, laminate, vinyl, etc.,) before relocating in storage racks.
  • Use sandpaper to smooth edges of planks that are splintered or rough.
  • If operator knows or believes that the wood they are processing or beginning to process is identified incorrectly, they are to notify Samples QC group and complete a Quality Non-Conformance form. They will provide QC with a piece of the wood and the identification number.
  • Pull corresponding QC standard board from QC racks before processing work order. Confirm product to be cut with product on QC board. Return QC board to racks upon completion of w/o.
  • Place waste (i.e. wood, cardboard, plastics, strap, etc.) in appropriate receptacle.
  • Have basic knowledge of computer operation
