The Hard Lines Merchandising Specialist is responsible for sorting hard goods donations, categorizing items as sellable, non-sellable, and high-value. This role involves researching and pricing items following GWH guidelines. The specialist will process hard good donations from the backroom to ensure merchandise is priced and prepared for the sales floor, handling them efficiently and cost-effectively to maximize profitability and support the mission.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to understand safety instructions, standard operating procedures, and workplace communications.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact well with individuals with diverse personalities and communication styles.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for current or future employment. GWH does not offer visa sponsorship for employment purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of items to be considered as eCommerce that should be given to the manager on duty to process (review training binder for detailed guidelines).
  • Retail sales experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Sorting and grading hard goods donations according to GWH quality guidelines to maximize production.
  • Researching merchandise value using current GWH baseline pricing guides or utilizing Google Lens, eBay, and/or other resell platforms to price merchandise.
  • Ensuring designated personal protective equipment (PPE) is being utilized while on duty, including but not limited to cut-resistant gloves.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workstation before, during, and after the shift.
  • Requesting additional production supplies from management when running low.
  • Routinely monitoring merchandise levels on the sales floor to increase production in specific categories and notifying management when running low.
  • Assisting with product rotation and sales floor recovery to maintain a Full, Fresh, and Friendly shopping environment.
  • Greeting each customer and assisting with basic questions about store operations and merchandise as needed.
  • Assisting with unloading donations from donor vehicles, accurately using the donation tablet, and assisting donors as needed.
  • Assisting with loading and unloading equipment as needed.
  • Performing housekeeping duties across assigned areas, ensuring spaces remain clean, safe, and free of clutter.
  • Assisting in maintaining the safety and security of GWH associates, customers, and company property.
  • Performing necessary janitorial work.
  • Reporting all work incidents and injuries immediately.
  • Performing other duties as directed by management to support evolving organizational needs.
  • Demonstrating professionalism, good judgment, and presenting a friendly, cooperative attitude.
  • Adhering to all GWH Policies & Procedures, Loss Prevention & Safety Regulations, and GWH Guiding Principles.
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and performing expected duties.
  • Maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Performing all duties according to GWH safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping standards, and ensuring all walkways are clear and free of clutter.
