About The Position

Salt & Light (S&L) is a non-denominational, Christian nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty with dignity. We aim to empower individuals by providing opportunities for growth and development, moving beyond simply offering aid to fostering self-sufficiency. Our model involves participants earning store credit through volunteering, which they can then use to acquire resources. We operate stores in Urbana and Champaign that serve the entire community and generate revenue to support our programs.

This position, reporting to the Receiving & Processing Manager and Assistant Manager, is crucial in fulfilling our mission by providing outstanding customer service to customers, donors, volunteers, and staff. The role requires a motivated self-starter who loves people, is comfortable in a team environment, and can effectively multitask and prioritize while delivering excellent service. This position pays $16.50 per hour.

Requirements

• Work well with a diverse group of staff, customers, and volunteers.
• Self-starter and solution-focused.
• Prior knowledge of valuing home goods, toys, electronics, antiques, and memorabilia.
• Work efficiently in a team and individually.
• Pay attention to the details.
• Provide instruction and leadership to volunteers.
• Communicate with volunteers and team members.
• Ability to bend and lift merchandise from carts and gaylords.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more with assistance.

• Ability to sort and identify merchandise into high value, price bins, scrap, or trash.

• Learn and implement the 3 hard-line processing functions and standards.

• Efficiently process hard line items and pay close attention to details.
• Meet processing goals to ensure the quality of goods for all Salt and Light locations.
• Assist volunteers and team members with questions and help with needs.
