About The Position

As a Harbor Operations Specialist, you will be front-line operational staff for Port properties for commercial fishing, commercial, and recreational vessel facilities. You will serve as key operations staff with responsibilities of providing services both waterside on docks and within upland facilities. You will also manage day-to-day operations of maritime business and ensure all activities are followed according to set expectations, Port policies, and procedures for safety, environmental, and efficiency. You will provide customer service by providing standard operational information to current and prospective customers and the public. You will establish and maintain positive interactions with customers to address their concerns, answer their questions, and assist with their needs. You will also handle customer requests or issues and provide appropriate solutions within appropriate time limits to ensure high level of customer service. You will provide property security by patrolling through buildings, upland gated fence storage yards, and ensuring that all areas are locked and secured for facility and public safety. You will also provide parking enforcement and dock compliance ensuring proper policies and procedures. You will collaborate with other Harbor Operations Specialists, Contracted Security, Portfolio Manager, and Maintenance Personnel to meet customer needs. You will exchange information and provide daily updates to bring awareness to routine events, scheduled special events, and activities which may impact the facility operations. You will also provide updates and revised post orders to on-coming duty Harbor Specialist at shift turnover. You will perform roving security patrols by driving between multiple maritime customer locations across port and waterfront properties. You must be able to drive to respond quickly to emergencies and incidents. You will respond to alarms, service requests, and security issues using a vehicle to ensure safety and operational efficiency. You will also serve as a First Responder by operating a skiff during emergencies, deploying oil boom equipment, and executing spill containment and reporting procedures in compliance with safety and regulatory policies.

Requirements

Valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle.
If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
One (1) year of experience in facilities, maintenance or security operations.
You will apply equity and exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices in all aspects of the work.
Knowledge of business functions, operations, maintenance, and information systems.
Familiarity in boat and marina operations and marina environmental regulations and guidelines.
General knowledge of desktop office applications such as Microsoft Outlook and Word.
Proficient customer service skills, especially face to face interaction.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Well-developed problem-solving skills and conflict resolution skills to effectively manage through expected and unexpected change.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
