This is a full-time position for a Harbor Deckhand. The role is responsible for the overall safety of the towing vessel and all coworkers, reporting any unsafe or hazardous conditions to the Master-on-Duty and making corrections when able. Responsibilities include making and breaking tow, picking up and delivering barges, performing look-out duties, operating winches and ratchets, handling lines, performing routine maintenance on critical vessel systems, inspecting firefighting and lifesaving equipment, maintaining cleanliness of the engine room and vessel, participating in drills and safety meetings, learning emergency duties, understanding and using PPE correctly, ordering supplies, taking on fuel, water, and oil, and providing training for new hires and trainees. Daily safety inspections of equipment and vessel structure are also a key part of the role, including visual inspections of various vessel areas. Assisting new crewmembers with training, including proper donning of PPE, is also required.
