About The Position

The Handyperson will play an essential role in Hospice Savannah Inc.’s (HSI) Community Aging in Place—Advancing Better Living for Elders (CAPABLE) program by performing home repairs and modifications to improve safety, accessibility, and functionality for underserved, under-resourced older adults. The Handyperson will conduct thorough home assessments to identify necessary work and serve as part of an inter-professional team with the CAPABLE Program Manager, Occupational Therapists, and CAPABLE Registered Nurses. The team works collaboratively to implement modifications tailored to each participant's needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience in aging in place home modifications or related field
  • Ability to complete physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to accurately, timely, and concisely document client encounters using a computer or tablet device
  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift items with or without the assistance of devices of more than 75 pounds using proper body mechanics
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb, kneel, reach, crawl, push, pull, and twist the majority of the workday

  • Proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work from a collaborative, client-centered model
  • Familiarity with universal design principles and the selection and use of durable medical equipment
  • Familiarity with accessibility modifications for older adults or individuals with mobility limitations
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and ADA guidelines
  • Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) certification
  • Experience working with older adults
  • Occasional requests to work additional hours as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform home repairs and modifications to improve safety, accessibility, and functionality for older adults.

  • Complete client encounters using a computer or tablet device.
  • Travel as required to perform client visits utilizing personal vehicle.
  • Serve clients outside of their designated department/region at times.
