About The Position

Provide patient care in highly specialized hand and upper extremity services to traumatic, reconstructive and post-surgical patients. Assist with the development, guidance, and assessment of the capabilities of clinical staff; emphasis is placed on developing and advancing clinical skills. May provide staff and students with education information and in-service training, and act as a resource person. Provide positive role modeling for the department. Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Requirements

  • M.S., B.S. or DPT in Physical or M.S or B.S. or D.O.T. in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state where work is being performed.
  • Certified Hand Therapist by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (has successfully passed HTCC exam and maintains certification).
  • Knowledge of Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy anticipated outcomes.
  • At least 3 years of Hand Therapy practice.
  • A minimum of 5 years National Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provision of direct patient care that integrates clinical theory and practice at an advanced level to plan and provide quality services for complex upper extremity injuries or impairments.
  • Assists with day-to-day operations of Hand Therapy Center and acts as liaison between therapists, support staff, and physicians. Provides individual clinical supervision as needed, and informs Manager of suggestions for action.
  • Develops and implements a Hand Therapy specialty program. Provides marketing content and other peripherals, while coordinating efforts with the Manager and Director of Rehabilitation Services.
  • Provides input for departmental policies and procedures, budget requests, marketing plans and program development.
  • Provides motivational guidance and clinical expertise to assist staff in their ability to effectively evaluate and treat a challenging caseload. Develops and updates Hand Therapy guidelines/protocols as requested. Assists with the development, organization, and provision of in-service educational opportunities for staff therapists to assure the ongoing growth of their professional expertise.
  • Actively participates in and assists with compilation of PI data and reports, outcomes measurement, and implementation of action plan of PI programs of the department and system.
  • Provides orientation to new staff members, students, volunteers, and other department associates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
