About The Position

The Pines at Utica, an affiliate of National Health Care Associates and a Certified Great Place to Work, is seeking a Part-Time Hairdresser. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of aging residents by providing professional hair care and beauty services. The position is located at 1800 Butterfield Avenue, Utica, New York, 13501, with a schedule of Wednesdays and Fridays, afternoons and evenings. The pay is based on services completed, and a flexible schedule is offered. The Hairdresser will create a warm, respectful, and engaging salon environment, consult with residents on their preferences, and maintain a clean and sanitized salon space. This role requires patience, empathy, and kindness, along with the ability to maintain accurate records and collaborate with facility staff.

Requirements

• Current New York State cosmetology license and proof of liability insurance.
• Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
• Dependable, professional, and compassionate demeanor.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working with older adults or in a long-term care setting (highly preferred).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build rapport with seniors and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide a full range of hair care services including cuts, styling, shampooing, color, and perms for elderly residents.
• Create a warm, respectful, and engaging salon environment that makes residents feel at home.
• Maintain a clean and sanitized salon space in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
• Consult with residents (and occasionally family members) to understand their preferences and needs.
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, and kindness while serving individuals with varying physical and cognitive abilities.
• Maintain accurate records of appointments and services provided.
• Collaborate with facility staff to schedule appointments and coordinate care plans as needed.
