About The Position

The Hair Stylist / Cosmetologist provides on-site hair care and grooming services to PACE participants across multiple locations. This role supports participant dignity, hygiene, and overall well-being by delivering professional cosmetology services in a compassionate, safe, and respectful manner. The position travels between assigned sites and may provide services during special events or, as needed, in participant homes.

Requirements

  • Valid New York State Cosmetology or Barber License (active and in good standing)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a hair stylist or cosmetologist
  • Ability to travel regularly across multiple NYC boroughs
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Experience working with elderly, disabled, or medically complex populations (e.g., nursing homes, adult day care, PACE programs)
  • Experience working with individuals with dementia or cognitive impairments
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish/Bengali/Chinese or other languages common to participant population)
  • Standing – Duration of up to 6 hours a day.
  • Sitting/Stationary positions – Sedentary position in duration of up to 6-8 hours a day for consecutive hours/periods.
  • Lifting/Push/Pull – Up to 50 pounds of equipment, baggage, supplies, and ability to lift patients safely and using OSHA guidelines, etc.
  • Bending/Squatting – Must be able to safely bend or squat to care for patients, use medical supplies, etc.
  • Stairs/Steps/Walking/Climbing – Must be able to safely maneuver stairs, climb up/down, and walk to access work areas
  • Position requires the individual to be able to travel, and walk between sites/locations and work areas throughout the day.
  • Agility/Fine Motor Skills - Must demonstrate agility and fine motor skills to operate and activate equipment, devices, instruments, and tools (ie. typing, use of medical supplies, equipment, etc.)
  • Sight/Visual Requirements – Must be able to visually assess patients, read orders type/write documentation, etc. with accuracy.
  • Audio Hearing and Motor Skills (language) Requirements – Must be able to listen attentively and document information from patients, community members, providers, etc., and intake information through audio processing with accuracy. In addition, must be able to speak comfortably and clearly with language motor skills for customers to understand the individual.
  • Cognitive Ability – Must be able to demonstrate good decision-making, reasonableness, cognitive ability, rational processing, and analysis to satisfy essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Provide haircuts, basic hairstyling, and grooming services to participants in accordance with their preferences and care needs
  • Ensure a respectful, patient-centered approach when working with elderly and/or cognitively impaired participants
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable service environment at all times
  • Follow all infection control, hygiene, and safety protocols in alignment with healthcare standards
  • Properly clean and disinfect tools and equipment between each participant
  • Observe and report any concerns related to participant scalp/skin conditions to appropriate clinical staff
  • Travel to multiple PACE sites across assigned regions (e.g., Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Westchester/Long Island)
  • Coordinate daily schedules with site staff to ensure efficient participant flow
  • Maintain accurate logs of services provided, as required
  • Participation in special events (e.g., participant celebrations, wellness days) as needed
  • Provide occasional in-home services when requested and approved
  • Support a positive participant experience aligned with organizational values
