The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is a groundbreaking nuclear physics research facility designed to unlock the secrets of matter. The EIC utilizes two intersecting accelerators, one for electrons and one for protons or heavier atomic nuclei, to create collisions. This project is expected to lead to significant scientific discoveries and technological advancements. The Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) System Manager will play a crucial role in the EIC project, reporting to the Accelerator Storage Rings Project Manager. This position is responsible for managing approximately $200M in scope within the EIC project's schedule and budget. The manager will lead matrixed technical resources to achieve the deliverables for the Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) within the Accelerator Storage Rings Subproject. The HSR is a key accelerator system comprising multiple technical subsystems, including magnets, vacuum, beam instrumentation, power supplies, RF, cryogenics, controls, and supporting infrastructure. The role demands managing these multidisciplinary efforts to ensure the successful design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the HSR system. This requires broad engineering knowledge and leadership within a matrixed organization. The manager will maintain the technical baseline for the assigned WBS scope, ensuring delivery aligns with cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements. Familiarity with federal project management practices, including Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), project tracking, scheduling, and reporting, is essential for managing cost and schedule performance. Exceptional interpersonal skills are needed to collaborate effectively with scientists, engineers, technicians, and project management staff across the EIC collaboration.
