About The Position

The Habilitation Instructor is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering structured classes in horticulture, sewing, and carpentry for developmentally disabled offenders. This role supports rehabilitation and skill-building through vocational training and the application of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles to enhance social, behavioral, and independent living skills. The instructor collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to monitor and document individual progress, ensures a safe and organized learning environment, manages program resources and budgets, and contributes to administrative and professional development activities. This position reports to the Psychological Services Coordinator and plays a key role in promoting constructive use of time and preparing individuals for more independent and productive lives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or business field such as human resources, marketing, business administration, business management, healthcare management, or public administration from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate’s degree in a human services or business field (identified above) from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and delivers vocational training in horticulture, sewing, and carpentry for developmentally disabled offenders, using task analysis and adaptive methods.
  • Applies cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles and behavior management techniques to support social, emotional, and independent living skill development.
  • Evaluates client progress, documents goals and outcomes, and communicates observations effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Maintains program equipment, manages budgets, ensures a clean and safe learning environment, and performs related administrative duties.
  • Builds rapport with clients, staff, and community partners while promoting workplace readiness and addressing barriers to employment.
