About The Position

Headquartered in Paducah, Kentucky and founded in 1978, Marquette is a leading provider of inland marine transportation services. Our Company operates over 130 towboats on the Mississippi River System, Gulf-Intracoastal Waterway, and near-shore coastwise market. In addition, the Company controls over 1,000 dry cargo barges. The Company has additional offices in St Rose, LA, Lockport, LA and La Porte, TX. With over 1,800 vessel and shore-based employees, Marquette is the largest provider of independent towing services within the inland waterways. We are the only fully integrated fleet in the industry that can do what we do. Marquette has implemented a hybrid internal and outsourced IT solution that leverages the best of a small personal, internal IT team with the flexibility, resources, and wider breadth of skillsets provided by IT specialty vendors. We currently support multiple networks, over 1,000 IT CIs/devices, 250 direct users, and 1,200 indirect users. We directly work with over 85 software/IT service products and vendors. Being part of the Marquette IT team involves blending traditional IT problem-solving with unique fieldwork, requiring adaptability and comfort with hands-on environments. This IT internship is a hands-on opportunity to gain insight and experience in every level of support, implementation, and service delivery provided by the IT department, mostly out in the field on-board working towboats:

Requirements

  • Able to work 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Interest in field IT work and ability to adapt to non-traditional work settings such as towboats and dockside facilities.
  • A positive, customer-focused mindset and a passion for hands-on learning.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and excellent driving record.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Competency with computers, operating systems, and common software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electrical systems and general physical/technical labor is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with hardware installation and repair (networking equipment, cabling, communications systems, and onboard devices).
  • Configure and support next-generation networking and communications devices onboard vessels.
  • Research, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues for our employees using a ticketing system and RMM software.
  • Learn about current security trends and implement best practices for keeping company employees and data secure in an enterprise environment.
  • Contribute to the behind-the-scenes work that makes us successful, such as maintaining accurate inventory and performing preventative maintenance on IT equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
