About The Position

Monroe Public Schools is seeking a dependable and physically fit individual to serve as a Guide Runner for a high school student participating in the cross country program. The Guide Runner will provide individualized support during team practices and competitions to promote the student's safe and meaningful participation in the cross country program. This position requires the ability to accompany the student throughout practices and meets by running alongside the student or, when appropriate, riding a bicycle at a comparable pace.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to consistently run at approximately an 8:00–9:00 minute-per-mile pace for distances associated with high school cross country training or safely operate a bicycle at a comparable pace.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to accommodate the cross country practice and meet schedule.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, coaches, staff, and families.
  • Must successfully complete all Monroe Public Schools pre-employment requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with high school students and/or student-athletes preferred.
  • Running, cross country, track, coaching, or related athletic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accompany and support the student during scheduled cross country practices and meets.
  • Run alongside the student or ride a bicycle, as appropriate, during training runs and other team activities.
  • Maintain a pace of approximately 8:00–9:00 minutes per mile for applicable running activities.
  • Assist the student with safely navigating practice routes and cross country courses.
  • Provide appropriate guidance and support while encouraging the student's independence and full participation with the team.
  • Communicate effectively with the coaching staff regarding practice routes, meet expectations, scheduling, and student support needs.
  • Follow the direction of the cross country coaching staff, Athletic Department, and Student Services administration.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and student confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow all Monroe Public Schools policies, procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Perform other related duties necessary to support the student's participation in the cross country program.
