About The Position

The Guidance, Navigation, and Controls (GNC) Engineering Team delivers the GNC subsystem for a program/constellation. This includes subsystem/system level analysis to ensure requirements compliance, sensor and actuator selection, and Flight Control Software (FCSW) development and validation. Engineers in the GNC group are integral throughout the entire program lifecycle, providing mission and system design inputs, critical analysis products, software/algorithm development, support to satellite integration and test (I&T), and on-console support for on-orbit operations. As the GNC Engineering Manager, you will be the primary point of contact for technical, budget, and resource allocation to meet team member needs, customer requirements, program needs, and company goals. You will set the engineering standard for the team, define roles and responsibilities, establish processes/workflow, and facilitate mentorship and training by GNC Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). You will ensure that programs are adequately staffed and program objectives are met on time and on budget. You will be involved in forecasting future staffing needs based on the new business pipeline, and you will work side-by-side with Millennium Recruiting to build the team at all experience levels. You will manage the performance of all members of the GNC team. You will coordinate Internal Research and Development (IRAD) and process/tool improvement initiatives with subject matter experts. Successful engineering team leads possess technical knowledge in the group's discipline as well as the leadership and communication skills needed to interact with engineers and the broader Millennium organization (Programs, Manufacturing, Mission Operations, HR, Recruiting, etc.). This position's internal job is Systems Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership.”
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in satellite design and/or operation
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a technical leader managing complex projects or teams of engineers
  • Strong GNC fundamentals and spacecraft system level knowledge, as well as deep familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Matlab/Simulink; minimum 5 years' experience
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • A final U.S. Top/SCI clearance Post Start is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or science related discipline strongly preferred
  • 7+ years experience in satellite design and/or operation
  • Advanced understanding of classical and modern control theory, system-level trade studies, architecture development, and systems integration & analysis
  • Experience defining satellite & constellation CONOPS
  • Familiarity with GNC hardware components (e.g. reaction wheels, control moment gyroscopes, rate/acceleration/magnetic field sensors, star trackers, propulsion systems, etc.)
  • Strong fundamentals of project management, including monitoring cost and schedule performance
  • Functional management experience
  • Possess active U.S. Top Secret/SCI clearance
