About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineers for an internship on the Core Vehicle Management System (CoreVMS) program. The internship will be fully on-site in San Diego, California. Interns will perform a range of guidance, navigation, and control tasks, potentially including nonlinear six-degree-of-freedom simulation analysis, embedded flight control software design, coding and testing, and control-system design, analysis, and integration. The internship requires availability for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027, working 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university and graduate after August 2027.
• Major in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another related STEM field.
• Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
• Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance and Program Special Access within a reasonable period of time; U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

• Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance or higher.
• Overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher.
• Experience with the design, analysis, and integration of control systems.
• Knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink.
• Knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
• Knowledge of flight sciences, control law development, or control system analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform nonlinear 6DOF simulation analysis, including stress testing, trade studies, and mission analysis.
• Design, code, and test embedded flight control software.
• Design, analyze, and integrate control systems.
