About The Position

In order to assist students in making sound educational, occupational, and life plans, the guidance counselor shall carry out the following major duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current Idaho Education Credential with appropriate endorsement
  • Must have Masters Degree in School Counseling or similar
  • Positive public relations skills
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish the major duties listed below.

Responsibilities

  • Perform such school-related duties as assigned by the supervisor(s).
  • Assist in the scheduling of students and orient them to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning.
  • Maintain student records and protect confidentiality.
  • Assist in removing barriers to academic success.
  • Assist in the identification and development of special abilities of students.
  • Provide assistance to Career Counselor with conveying career awareness information to students and classes.
  • Support Career Counselor in helping students evaluate career interests and choices.
  • Work with students on an individual basis in the solutions of personal problems related to such matters as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
  • Confer with parents whenever necessary.
  • Confer with administrators and faculty on matters of student discipline.
  • Assist with standardized tests administered to students in accordance with the district's testing program.
  • Work with students, parents, staff and others in a positive, encouraging manner.
  • Know and follow district policy and chain of command.
  • Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned.
