About The Position

The Guidance Counselor will work with individuals and organizations to promote the academic, career, and personal/social development of students. This role involves demonstrating professional leadership, assessing and communicating learning results, and possessing knowledge of content. The counselor will also be involved in designing and planning instruction, collaborating with colleagues, parents, and others, creating and maintaining a learning climate, engaging in professional development, implementing and managing instruction, and demonstrating the implementation of technology. The position requires adherence to all rules and regulations set by the Board of Education and the School SBDM Council. The counselor will develop and implement a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program, promote a developmental, preventive guidance program for all students, and use individual and group counseling to address barriers to learning. They will also function cooperatively to assist others in meeting student needs, advocate for students, and coordinate resources for student development. Additionally, the role includes serving as the Building Assessment Coordinator, designing and coordinating a testing program, acting within legal and ethical guidelines, providing professional leadership, evaluating performance, and using technology effectively. The counselor must maintain a professional appearance, regular attendance, and adhere to the professional code of ethics.

Requirements

  • Must have Guidance Counselor Certificate to be considered for this position.
  • Valid State Teacher Certificate
  • Current Certificate for School Guidance Counselor

Responsibilities

  • Implements all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the Board of Education and the School SBDM Council.
  • Develops a process and procedure for planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling.
  • Promotes a developmental, preventive guidance program to all students within the school.
  • Uses individual and group counseling to address mental, physical, and emotional barriers to learning and to help each child learn at high levels.
  • Functions in a cooperative process to assist others to effectively meet the needs of students, and through consultation, advocates for students.
  • Functions as a coordinator in bringing together people and resources in the school, the community, and the district for the fullest academic, career, personal, and social development of the students.
  • Serves as the Building Assessment Coordinator and collaborates with other school and district staff to design and coordinate a testing program that helps students identify their abilities, aptitudes, achievements, and interests.
  • Acts within legal and ethical guidelines to accomplish educational purposes.
  • Provides professional leadership within the school, community, and education profession to improve student learning and well being.
  • Evaluates his or her own overall performance in relation to Kentucky’s learner goals and implements a professional development plan.
  • Uses technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community; and conduct research.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains a professional and appropriate appearance.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Adheres to the professional code of ethics.
