The Guardianship Social Worker (GSW) acts as a legal Guardian to all children and youth in care of the Director. Social Workers on Multidisciplinary Teams are responsible for developing a trusting and respectful relationship with children, families, and communities the Agency serves. Social Workers at Xyolhemeylh can expect to contribute to our Mission across the entire social work service delivery spectrum. GSW’s provide culturally appropriate and holistic services to protect and support children in care within the parameters provided by the BC Child, Family and Community Services Act and the Aboriginal Operational and Practice Standards and Indicators (AOPSI). This is done by building trusting relationships and working in collaboration with the children in care, the family/caregivers, Indigenous Communities, identified elders, and support workers. The views of children, families and communities are sought, valued, respected, and considered in all aspects of service planning, service delivery and service evaluation. Xyólheméylh is proud to have an Elders Advisory Council to ensure that culture is embedded throughout the agency ensuring the goals, missions and values are upheld in a good way. Lets'emót – to be of one heart and one mind.
