About The Position

Southern University is seeking a Guard to support the university’s traffic and parking operations by guiding campus traffic, enforcing regulations, and setting up necessary equipment to maintain a safe and efficient campus environment. The mission of Southern University and A&M College, an Historically Black, 1890 land-grant institution, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is to provide a student-focused teaching and learning environment that creates global leadership opportunities for a diverse student population where teaching, research, service, scholarly and creative expectations for students and faculty are achieved through the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs offered at the institution via different instructional modalities and via public service.

Requirements

  • No experience or training is required.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Applicants may be required to possess a current Louisiana driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces Southern University Traffic and Parking Regulations across campus to ensure safe and orderly vehicle flow.
  • Directs vehicular traffic on campus during peak hours, special events, and as needed.
  • Picks up, transports, and sets up plastic and metal barricades for traffic control, events, and restricted areas.
  • Applies vehicle immobilization devices to vehicles in violation of traffic and parking regulations.
  • Coordinates with towing services and directs tow truck operators to the location of vehicles designated for towing.
