About The Position

The purpose of this position is to monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties. To control the access of personnel, report security violations, fire, and other safety hazards at the UT Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience in a similar field
  • Class "C" operator's driver's license
  • Provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence
  • If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident
  • Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing)
  • Resume/CV
  • 3 work references with their contact information; at least one reference should be from a supervisor
  • Letter of interest
  • Complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 form
  • Present acceptable and original documents to prove identity and authorization to work in the United States
  • Respond to application questions presented to upload any additional Required Materials

  • Some College hours towards a Criminal Justice degree

Responsibilities

  • Reporting and responding to emergencies independently or in a team as directed
  • Conducting vehicle and foot patrols, screening visitors
  • Controlling access to restricted areas
  • Building assessment checkpoint patrols, Guard tour patrols within scope of SOPs
  • Opening and securing doors, gates, and buildings
  • Monitoring closed-circuit television (CCTV) equipment intermittently
  • Operating vehicle and handheld radios
  • Ability to complete official and unofficial reports
  • Managing vehicle and pedestrian traffic through checkpoints, parking areas, and visitor use facilities
  • Assisting with VIP/dignitary visits and special events
  • Providing professional customer service to employees and visitors

  • Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
