About The Position

The GTS Repair Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and engineering support for the inspection, repair, refurbishment, modernization, and reliability improvement of turbomachinery and rotating equipment processed through the RMS Bay Area Boulevard (BAB) Repair Center. This position combines traditional repair engineering with advanced technologies including metrology, 3D laser scanning, reverse engineering, virtual assembly, digital work packages, and digital twin methodologies to improve repair quality, reduce turnaround times, and deliver innovative solutions to RMS customers. The GTS Repair Engineer serves as the technical link between customers, project management, operations, field services, metrology, quality, and manufacturing teams. The role is responsible for developing repair scopes, evaluating equipment condition, resolving technical challenges, supporting repair execution, and ensuring all work is performed in accordance with customer requirements, industry standards, and RMS quality expectations. As a member of the Global Technology Solutions organization, this position plays a key role in advancing RMS's strategy of delivering technology-enabled, turnkey turbomachinery solutions that improve reliability, reduce outage duration, and create measurable value for customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in turbomachinery repair, rotating equipment engineering, manufacturing engineering, reliability engineering, or maintenance engineering.
  • Strong understanding of rotating equipment and turbomachinery systems.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced repair and manufacturing environment.
  • Able to understand, read, write, and speak English proficiently.
  • Authorized to work in the United States and provide proper documentation.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and background check.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 25 lbs., 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, reach above head, bend and stand.
  • This position may be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting turbomachinery repair centers or OEM service operations.
  • Experience with steam turbines and compressors.
  • Familiarity with API, ASME, ISO, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, NX, or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with 3D laser scanning, metrology, reverse engineering, or virtual assembly technologies.
  • Knowledge of welding, machining, coatings, balancing, and repair manufacturing processes.
  • Experience performing root cause failure analysis and reliability studies.
  • Previous field service or outage support experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate incoming turbomachinery components and assemblies to determine repair feasibility and technical requirements.
  • Develop repair scopes, engineering work instructions, technical procedures, and repair disposition reports.
  • Review inspection findings and recommend repair, replacement, upgrade, or redesign solutions.
  • Perform engineering evaluations of rotating equipment components including: Steam turbines, Compressors, Bearings and seals, Couplings and auxiliary systems.
  • Support root cause investigations and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Generate engineering calculations and technical analyses to support repair decisions and fitness-for-service evaluations.
  • Interpret and review engineering drawings, OEM documentation, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Provide engineering support during repair execution and resolve technical issues that arise during manufacturing and assembly activities.
  • Serve as the primary engineering resource supporting operations at the BAB Repair Center.
  • Work closely with shop personnel to support machining, welding, balancing, coatings, assembly, and testing activities.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings, technical reviews, and repair planning sessions.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies to support successful project execution.
  • Assist project managers with schedule development and technical deliverables.
  • Support customer visits, repair reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Support advanced metrology activities including 3D laser scanning and dimensional inspection.
  • Review metrology data and evaluate component condition against OEM and RMS acceptance criteria.
  • Develop reverse-engineered drawings, models, and technical documentation when OEM information is unavailable.
  • Support virtual assembly activities to validate repair plans and identify potential fit-up issues prior to manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with GTS Metrology personnel to develop technology-enabled repair solutions.
  • Support implementation of digital engineering technologies throughout repair operations.
  • Assist in developing digital workflows that improve repair planning, execution, documentation, and customer reporting.
  • Utilize CAD software and digital tools to support repair engineering and manufacturing activities.
  • Support digital twin, virtual assembly, and advanced inspection initiatives within GTS.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce turnaround time, improve repair quality, and enhance customer value through technology adoption.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized repair methodologies and best practices.
  • Ensure repairs comply with customer requirements, RMS procedures, OEM specifications, and applicable industry standards.
  • Participate in nonconformance investigations and corrective action processes.
  • Support Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) activities and reliability improvement programs.
  • Develop and maintain repair standards, engineering templates, and technical documentation.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within repair engineering and facility operations.
  • Promote and support RMS's commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • Participate in job hazard analyses and technical risk assessments.
  • Ensure engineering recommendations prioritize safe operation, maintainability, and long-term equipment reliability.
  • Comply with all RMS safety policies, procedures, and facility requirements.
