About The Position

GTI Energy designs, engineers, and manufactures complex modular systems supporting modular data center infrastructure, energy storage platforms, power generation systems, defense, and industrial markets. Operating in a high-mix industrial manufacturing environment, GTI builds mission-critical enclosures, piping systems, cooling systems, structural assemblies, and integrated modular infrastructure requiring highly skilled welders and fabricators. Our facilities support advanced fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and final system integration, where quality workmanship and precision execution are essential. GTI Energy is seeking a GTAW Welder with Pipe Welding experience to perform high-quality TIG welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, and other pipe systems used in modular industrial products. This role is responsible for the welding process, piping, cooling systems, structural pipe assemblies, and mechanical piping components to code and drawing requirements. The ideal candidate has strong experience with GTAW (TIG) welding on pipe, can read isometric drawings, understands fit-up and purge requirements, and takes pride in producing clean, defect-free welds in a production environment. Experience with open root welding (ORW/OTW) techniques on pipe is strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • 3–7+ years of GTAW / TIG welding experience with a strong pipe welding background
  • Proven experience welding stainless steel and carbon steel pipe
  • Proven experience with open root welding (ORW/OTW) pipe welds
  • Ability to pass GTAW pipe weld test (2G / 5G / 6G as required)
  • Ability to read isometric drawings, spool drawings, and fabrication prints
  • Strong fit-up, measurement, and pipe prep skills
  • Knowledge of purge welding, filler metals, and welding parameters
  • Ability to work in shop or manufacturing environments and lift 50+ pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Current or prior ASME Section IX, AWS, or customer weld certifications
  • Experience with chilled water systems, mechanical piping, process piping, or modular skid builds
  • Experience in modular data centers, power generation, food processing, pharma, or industrial piping environments
  • SMAW or GMAW experience in addition to GTAW preferred
  • Pipefitting experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform GTAW (TIG) welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy pipe systems in accordance with WPS, drawings, and quality standards
  • Weld pipe in various positions, including 2G, 5G, and 6G, depending on project requirements
  • Perform open root welding (ORW/OTW) techniques with strong penetration and root quality
  • Complete root pass, hot pass, fill, and cap welds with clean appearance and sound fusion
  • Maintain consistent weld quality meeting visual, dimensional, and testing requirements
  • Read isometric drawings, spool drawings, P&IDs, and fabrication prints
  • Measure, cut, bevel, prep, and fit pipe for welding operations
  • Verify alignment, gaps, offsets, slope, and fit-up before welding
  • Work with flanges, valves, fittings, reducers, elbows, supports, and mechanical connections
  • Weld stainless steel, carbon steel, schedule pipe, tubing, and pressure-related assemblies
  • Understand purge welding requirements for stainless pipe and sanitary or critical service systems
  • Select correct filler metals, tungsten types, shielding gas settings, and welding parameters
  • Ensure weld procedures are followed for material type and thickness
  • Produce welds meeting internal quality standards and applicable ASME, AWS, or customer specifications as required
  • Prepare welds for visual inspection, hydro test, pressure test, or NDE where applicable
  • Identify defects and perform repairs in accordance with approved procedures
  • Maintain high First Pass Yield (FPY) and minimize rework
  • Follow all OSHA, PPE, hot work, confined space, and welding safety requirements
  • Maintain a clean and organized welding area, tools, leads, torches, and consumables
  • Handle materials safely using cranes, forklifts, jacks, or rigging equipment as authorized
  • Meet daily production schedules, takt time goals, and throughput expectations
  • Support urgent builds, prototype projects, and customer priority programs
  • Communicate delays, material issues, or drawing concerns proactively
  • Work closely with Pipe Fitters, Fabricators, Inspectors, Supervisors, and Engineers
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Support Root Cause Analysis on weld defects or recurring production issues
