About The Position

The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, servicing, and maintaining a wide variety of powered and non-powered aerospace ground support equipment used in support of aircraft maintenance and flight operations. This position ensures all equipment is maintained in a safe, operational, and mission-ready condition while complying with technical, environmental, and safety standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and lift heavy equipment as required.
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances or certifications if applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • technical or vocational training preferred
  • Experience in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, aviation support equipment, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • CDL may be preferred depending on assignment.
  • Experience with military or aviation ground support equipment.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and environmental compliance regulations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical malfunctions using technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
  • Inspect, test, operate, and troubleshoot GSE to verify serviceability and proper operation.
  • Repair or replace defective components, assemblies, wiring, controls, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and grounding systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools including digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, circuit testers, and other specialized equipment.
  • Disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, reassemble, and reinstall GSE components and accessories.
  • Service equipment with fuel, oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, water, and compressed air.
  • Maintain and update electronic and paper maintenance records, inspection reports, and equipment history documentation.
  • Use automated maintenance management systems to track repairs, monitor trends, and document maintenance actions.
  • Prepare equipment for storage, transportation, and deployment operations.
  • Operate and maintain GSE towing vehicles and support equipment dispatch operations.
  • Apply proper stenciling, markings, and identification labels in accordance with technical publications and standards.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials and waste in compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety programs including Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, tool accountability, housekeeping, and operational safety procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to junior mechanics and maintenance personnel.
  • Inspect and verify completed maintenance actions for quality and compliance.
