About The Position

Virgin Galactic is seeking a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic 2 to support its GSE team and human spaceflight mission. The position assists with maintaining, repairing, and inspecting the company’s ground support equipment fleet and vehicle fleet. The work is performed onsite. The current schedule is 4/10, Thursday through Sunday, day shift (6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.). Potential future schedules are 4/10, Monday through Thursday, day shift (6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) or night shift (4:00 p.m.–2:30 a.m.). The role requires availability to work all shifts and overtime, as well as weekends when needed, and travel 25% or more of the time. The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $53,040–$72,665. Actual pay may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, location, experience, and internal equity. Other compensation and benefits may be provided depending on the position offered. Applicants must meet U.S. Government export requirements, including being a U.S. Person or able to obtain required authorization, and must not be listed as a Specifically Designated National and Blocked Person. Employment at the Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport facility is contingent on obtaining and maintaining a TSA-authorized security badge.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of relevant mechanical experience.
Have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record that meets the insurance carrier’s criteria for on-the-job coverage.
Ability to interpret and follow printed or electronic maintenance manuals.
Strong systems-mechanical background and ability to learn and become proficient with new or customized equipment.
Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a safe and efficient workplace.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate in a culturally sensitive manner with individuals and groups.
Sound judgment and ability to make accurate, timely decisions.
Ability to work in a paperless environment and use tablets and MRO software to receive and record maintenance tasks.
Ability to understand and follow Virgin Galactic policies and procedures.
Proactive, strategic, detail-oriented approach and commitment to safety, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Familiarity with personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ability to remain stationary for at least 8 hours.
Ability to maneuver in tight spaces by stooping, bending, and crawling for at least 3 hours.
Ability to handle items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Ability to work all shifts and overtime, and to work weekends when needed.
Ability to travel 25% or more of the time.
For export compliance, applicant must be a U.S. Person or be able to obtain required authorization, and must not be included on the Specifically Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons list.
For employment at the Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport facility, obtain and maintain a TSA-authorized security badge, including required background checks.

Responsibilities

Complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on company-owned or leased ground support equipment and vehicle fleet in a timely manner and to required quality standards.
Perform diagnostic procedures to determine needed repairs.
Maintain required maintenance records using maintenance tracking software, including Limbal and 3DX.
Assist with and perform standard to complex mechanical checks, using and identifying various tools and equipment.
Assist with and perform daily preoperational inspections to confirm equipment serviceability and operational readiness.
Fuel and charge assets according to company policies and procedures.
Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
Perform other related duties and projects as business needs require and management directs.
