About The Position

Base Energy is America’s next-generation power company's retail electricity business. This business line saves customers and businesses on their power bills and is a major growth engine as the company expands across deregulated markets. The company is hiring a Lead to own this business line end-to-end, focusing on the growth strategy that scales it, the pricing that makes it competitive and profitable, and the commercial strategy. The role involves working with finance and markets to own pricing, owning the acquisition strategy and channel mix to hit enrollment targets, positioning the plan against incumbent retail providers, and managing risk. This role is designed for a commercial operator who desires ownership, pricing authority, a clear P&L to influence, and the autonomy to develop the strategy for how Base sells energy in new markets.

Requirements

  • 4+ years in a commercial, growth, or business-line role with direct ownership of metrics like pricing, P&L, or acquisition targets.
  • Experience ideally in retail electricity, energy, or another consumer business with demonstrable unit economics.
  • Strong commercial and pricing instincts, comfortable setting pricing considering cost-to-serve, margin, and sensitivity.
  • Comfort with risk, able to manage commodity, credit, and regulatory exposure and make confident decisions with incomplete information.
  • Data fluency, capable of pulling and modeling data (using tools like BigQuery and HubSpot) to inform pricing, targeting, and segmentation decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Own Base Energy’s growth, including enrollment and acquisition targets, channel mix, go-to-market strategy, and product strategy.
  • Set pricing by building and maintaining the rate card in partnership with markets, supply, and finance, balancing competitiveness, margin, and risk.
  • Run commercial strategy, owning unit economics, modeling pricing and contribution scenarios, and making decisions on market push, hold, or pull-back strategies.
  • Position the product by refining how Base Energy differentiates itself from incumbent retail electricity providers in terms of rates, transparency, and brand.
  • Build the expansion playbook by establishing Base Energy’s commercial and go-to-market motion in each new market entered.
