About The Position
Avenues Recovery Center is hiring a Group Therapist for its detox and residential treatment facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The role focuses on facilitating therapy, psychoeducation, and process groups that address clients’ individual challenges and needs. The therapist supports clients in developing healthy coping skills, positive behaviors, and tools for recovery, while coordinating with clinical staff to monitor client progress and concerns. The position also includes maintaining group-session documentation and ensuring clinical assessments and individual client charting are completed.
Requirements
- Valid CSAC licensure required to practice as a clinician in Virginia.
- Excellent interpersonal, observational, and communication skills.
- Strong presence and sound judgment.
- Warm, dignified, and honest character that inspires trust and models recovery principles.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred.
- At least one year of experience in the treatment industry preferred.
- For applicants in recovery, at least one year of sustained sobriety is required.
Responsibilities
- Conduct group therapy, psychoeducation, and process groups tailored to clients’ challenges and needs.
- Help clients develop healthy coping skills, positive behaviors, and recovery tools.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to track client challenges and progress.
- Escalate significant client concerns to the Clinical Director.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all group sessions conducted.
- Ensure clinical assessments and individual client charting are completed.
