About The Position

The J offers American Red Cross group swim lessons for children age 6 months and up. We offer classes for the beginner to the experienced swimmer who may be working on stroke proficiency and endurance.

Requirements

  • American Red Cross WSI certified, or able to obtain before start date (courses offered at The J if desired)
  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Able to communicate effectively with children and parents
  • Able to provide excellent customer service
  • Requires constant talking and hearing to communicate instructions with students, constant repetitive motions and eye/hand/foot coordination to demonstrate strokes as well as frequent standing.
  • Will occasionally walk, lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs., climb ladders in and out of pool, and stoop/crouch.
  • This position also involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions depending on the season, and varying pool temperatures.
  • Good vision to surveil assigned zones and identify patrons in need of assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous competitive swimming, teaching or coaching experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality instruction to individuals and small groups as assigned
  • Teaches skill-based instruction as outlined by the American Red Cross
  • Maintains accurate attendance and performance records
  • Follows and enforces all safety guidelines, policies and procedures of The J and the Aquatics Department
