About The Position

The Kentucky Derby Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization located at Churchill Downs Racetrack. It is a major attraction in the Louisville region, celebrating the history, tradition, hospitality, and pride of the Kentucky Derby. The Museum attracts over 258,000 visitors annually, with a significant portion coming from outside of Kentucky. The primary purpose of this position is to lead groups through the Churchill Downs Backside, providing engaging narration while ensuring the safety and respect of guests, working horsemen, and animals. This role reports to the Director of Group Sales and has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience required.
  • Ability to memorize and recite facts clearly and accurately.
  • Must be able to sufficiently pass a criminal background check.
  • Exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in customer service.
  • Experience with public speaking.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm tour details with Group Sales Manager/Coordinator and group leader prior to arrival.
  • Conduct walking tours of Churchill Downs and/or Churchill Downs Backside tours.
  • Lead the tour according to approved route, timing, and script.
  • Maintain knowledge of Kentucky Derby and Thoroughbred racing history and trivia.
  • Stay informed about museum exhibits and events.
  • Adapt presentation based on group interest, time, and conditions, as requested by the Group Sales Manager/Coordinator.
  • Charge and maintain museum microphones, and report any equipment needs or issues to the Group Sales Manager/Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
