About The Position

East Side House Settlement is a community resource in the South Bronx, dedicated to expanding opportunities through education, career, and supportive services. We are seeking a dynamic, hard-working, and creative leader to design and lead diverse enrichment activities for children and families in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx and the Inwood section of Manhattan. The Mott Haven Community Center serves middle school, high school, and adult populations with evening and weekend programming. We are looking for creative professionals with experience working with youth in areas such as music, visual arts, martial arts, media technology, dance, sports and recreation, health awareness, and community leadership.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.
Ability to engage and lead activities in your area of specialty.
Strong communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent judgment.
Ability to work in a team in a variety of environments.
Must be able to communicate effectively with all participants while always remaining professional.
Must be able to motivate students while setting an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and professionalism.
Flexibility, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Must be clear to work at ESH, contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.
Must obtain Department of Health Fingerprint Clearance.
Must obtain State Central Registry (SCR) Clearance ($25.00 Fee).
Must obtain Staff Exclusion List (SEL) Clearance.
Must complete a physical examination and TB test.
Must obtain Mandated Reporter Certificate (2 hours).
Must obtain Health & Safety Certificate (5 hours).

Nice To Haves

Some college preferred.
Experience working with middle school, high school, and adult populations, preferably in a racially, ethically, and socio-emotionally diverse urban community.
Genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities and field practice.
Candidates possessing skills in foreign languages, visual arts, music, or performing arts are strongly encouraged to apply.
Bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

Identify, create, and facilitate age-appropriate, thematic-based lesson plans and activities.
Work collaboratively with a team, providing support to specialists implementing activities.
Prepare the learning environment by creating a welcoming space that showcases participants' work.
Build positive relationships with youth and adults, serving as a role model in demeanor, communication, and behavior.
Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants through close supervision of all activities.
Assist with participant enrollment, recording, and submitting daily attendance records and other required documents to the Program Director.
Inspect daily all facilities (including shared spaces), equipment, and supplies, ensuring all are accounted for and put away at the end of each day.
