About The Position

As a member of a team working in a dynamic, challenging and growing business environment, you have demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the science of group underwriting. More specifically, you will be responsible to: Work independently and as part of a team. Can function with ease in a paperless environment. Manage risk selection, plan design and pricing decisions for large complex quotes and new cases. Manage a portfolio of major groups with high degree of complexity. Can clearly document rationale and final decisions for all quotes and renewals within risk binding authority with minimal supervision for actions and decisions. Apply and adapt underwriting methodologies / technical analysis for large complex cases. Strategize with sales to acquire new business, negotiates pricing and exception items and provides guidance with respect to alternate arrangements available to meet the client’s need. Provides consulting advice, guidance and training to less experienced underwriters. Review / approve work (as needed) of more junior staff and provide constructive feedback. Process all assigned work in accordance with departmental service standards; identifies and escalates areas for potential process improvement. Participate in and completes special tasks / projects assigned by team leadership or management.

Requirements

  • University degree in a related field
  • A minimum of five years of group underwriting experience with a company or in a similar environment with experience is all facets of group underwriting.
  • Expert knowledge of group insurance concepts, products and contract provisions
  • Advanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, specifically Excel and Word
