About The Position

The Group Fitness Apprentice supports a successful, safe, clean, and customer service-focused fitness environment for our members, guests, and fellow team members. They actively foster movement, connection, and personal attention, inspiring the Columbia community to lead active, social, and healthier lives. Under the direction of the Regional Group Fitness Director, who oversees the quality and consistency of all group fitness sessions, the Group Fitness Apprentice will lead safe and effective fitness classes, helping members and guests thrive. Applicants must hold a current Group Fitness Instructor Certification from one of the following approved organizations: AFAA, ACE, SCW, AEA, Schwinn, MadDogg, Yoga 200 RYT.

Requirements

  • Previous experience participating in group fitness classes.
  • Intention and commitment to teaching for CA.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver information clearly, concisely, and timely.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively manage class participants.
  • Able to work diligently and independently.
  • Possess problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities.
  • Have the ability to translate priorities into field decisions.
  • Possess ability to provide multisensory instruction: auditory, visual, tactile, kinesthetic.
  • Able to identify opportunities to improve club experience, efficiency or programming and implement innovative solutions.
  • Must have a professional appearance, a pleasant, helpful attitude, and enjoy customer service.
  • Utilize collaborative team building and performance management capabilities.
  • Other qualities critical for successful class delivery include leadership, self-confidence, motivation, decisiveness, flexibility, sound business judgment, and determination.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and climb without any difficulty.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, and alphabetize.
  • Complete assigned CA training within the specified time.
  • Group Fitness Instructor certification course
  • CPR/AED

  • Customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow Group Fitness departmental goals, policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and promote programs with CA members and the community, other group fitness instructors and team members.
  • Meet the expectations of the Group Fitness instructor position within 90 days of hire as an apprentice.
  • Be professional on time and prepare for all sessions and meetings.
  • Complete all preparations for meetings with mentor and team leaders.
  • Participate in all assigned departmental and divisional meetings.
  • Apply the basic principles of group fitness to all sessions
  • Complete all training and educational requirements as set forth in hire paperwork, by dates prescribed.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends through research, communication with other facilities, and by attending relevant seminars and meetings.
  • Assists in maintaining excellent cleanliness at all CA facilities.
  • Professionally and appropriately handles conflict resolution.
  • Maintains a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Follows all CA rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Works with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as required.
