About The Position

The Group Home Worker is responsible to provide support and assistance to individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in Next Steps Community Services programs. The Group Home Worker will assist individuals to become more integrated in the communities by maximizing the person’s strengths, skills and abilities. Support and training the individuals may occur in a variety of settings and may include providing personal care, assistance with daily living activities, job coaching, teaching and developing skills, self-advocacy, assisting in communication and self-expression and ultimately supporting the individuals in meeting their goals. The Group Home Worker assists the Next Steps team to ensure the highest quality of services are being delivered to the individuals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be willing to complete a criminal background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be legal to work in the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct Support Professional (DSP), Caregiver, Residential Counselor, Support Staff, Direct Care Staff, or Group Home Staff experience
  • Background in human services or direct care roles
  • Supporting individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Person-centered support, behavioral support, and positive behavior strategies
  • Independent living skills, life-skills coaching, community integration, and daily living support
  • Personal care assistance and household task support
  • Medication administration (as permitted by state guidelines)
  • Meal preparation and documentation
  • Safety monitoring and crisis prevention
  • Strong communication, empathy, patience, reliability, teamwork, problem-solving, and compassionate care
