About The Position

The fitness instructor leads group fitness classes at the Eden Prairie Community Center. This position may substitute for group fitness classes in a variety of formats. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are to provide instruction in a variety of fitness activities and formats, ensure members’ needs are met through personal recognition and by providing quality service, and monitor the well-being of all participants throughout the exercise program. The instructor will assume a leadership role as a professional in the area of fitness and wellness, encouraging participants to continue with exercises and make healthy choices. Additionally, the instructor is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy environment for exercising, enforcing all fitness facility policies, rules, and regulations, and assisting in the cleaning and general maintenance of fitness areas. Instructors are expected to arrive well-prepared with music cued, routines thought out, and ample time for setup and to greet participants prior to the start of class. While these are the primary focus, employees are expected to perform a variety of duties as part of their role with the City.

Requirements

  • Group exercise certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA or equivalent) required, format-specific certifications and First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required.
  • Experience teaching group fitness classes required, specifically Les Mills formats, including BodyPump and BodyPump Heavy.
  • Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification.
