About The Position

A Group Fitness Instructor at River Place Country Club is expected to lead safe, engaging, and motivating group fitness classes for members of varying fitness levels. This role involves demonstrating proper exercise technique, planning and delivering well-structured workouts, and fostering a welcoming, professional, and inclusive environment. The instructor will monitor participant safety, maintain a clean and organized fitness studio, prepare and return equipment, encourage member participation, and collaborate with the fitness team to provide an exceptional member experience.

Requirements

  • Current nationally recognized Group Fitness or Personal Trainer certification (such as NASM, ACE, ACSM, or AFAA).
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • Previous experience teaching group fitness classes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with a passion for health and wellness.
  • Professional, dependable, and member-focused.
  • Comfortable teaching participants with a wide range of fitness abilities.
  • Able to motivate members while maintaining a positive, country club-level customer service experience.
  • Plan the class structure and workout.
  • Know the goals (strength, cardio, flexibility, HIIT, etc.).
  • Have regressions and progressions ready for different fitness levels.
  • Give concise, easy-to-follow instructions.
  • Use verbal, visual, and physical (if appropriate and with consent) cues.
  • Count down transitions so participants know what's coming next.
  • Demonstrate proper technique.
  • Emphasize alignment and form over speed or intensity.
  • Encourage participants to work at an appropriate level and stop if they experience pain.
  • Be aware of environmental hazards, hydration, and emergency procedures.
  • Start and end on time.
  • Arrange the room for safe movement.
  • Maintain awareness of the entire group, not just the front row.
  • Use positive, encouraging language.
  • Create an inclusive atmosphere where all fitness levels feel welcome.
  • Celebrate effort and progress rather than performance.
  • Choose music appropriate for the workout and audience.
  • Match movement tempo to the music when applicable.
  • Keep transitions smooth to maintain momentum.
  • Explain what to do, how to do it, and why it matters.
  • Provide reminders about breathing, posture, and muscle engagement.
  • Anticipate common mistakes and cue corrections before they happen.
  • Modify exercises for beginners, advanced participants, or those with injuries or limitations.
  • Adjust the class based on participant energy, space, equipment, or unexpected circumstances.
  • A balanced class typically includes: Warm-up (5–10 minutes), Main workout, Cool-down, Stretching and recovery.
  • Be punctual and prepared.
  • Continue learning through education and certifications.
  • Build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
