About The Position

The Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) for Aqua Fitness/Silver Sneakers provides an exceptional member experience through fun, inclusive group fitness. The instructor motivates and uplifts members through movement and community, teaches safe and effective classes with options for different fitness levels and abilities, and helps build a supportive, energetic class environment. The role requires preparation, punctuality, clear communication, active monitoring of participants, and professional customer service. Instructors also promote classes to retain current participants and invite new ones. The primary work setting is a fitness facility and office environment, where temperature variations and ambient noise from conversation and gym equipment may occur. The position is hourly and non-exempt, with a stated pay range of $21.00–$28.00 per hour depending on experience. Instructors are paid the class hourly rate and minimum wage for preparation time or class time exceeding 60 minutes per class.

Requirements

0–1 year of experience in personal training, small group training, and/or group fitness training.
NCCA-accredited personal training or group fitness certification.
General knowledge and experience in kinesiology, exercise science, physical fitness, or related areas.
Current CPR/AED certification.
Current certification for the applicable format.
Passion for fitness, changing lives, and helping others reach their goals.
Energizing and positive attitude.
Ability to promote an upbeat, enthusiastic, high-energy environment.
Experience leading, communicating, coaching, teaching, or performing in front of a group.
Minimum local travel may be required for support, training, or other purposes.
Ability to talk frequently and convey detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Ability to stand and walk most of the time and lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
Ability to meet the physical criteria of the format being instructed.
Ability to handle varied situations, interpret instructions, and relay instructions to clients.
Regular attendance and ability to work scheduled shifts during business hours.

Nice To Haves

1–2 years of personal or small group training or group fitness instruction experience.
Experience leading group classes at a specialty studio.

Responsibilities

Provide an exceptional fitness experience to studio members by exemplifying VASA UPLIFT core values.
Ensure the VASA Uplift Member Experience (VUME) is executed in every class.
Arrive punctually and prepared; prepare the room and greet members at the door on time.
Demonstrate exercises and movements safely and accurately, and actively monitor members' performance.
Complete post-class procedures, including cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing the area.
Respond promptly to member needs and concerns with approachable, professional, and engaging customer service.
Teach safe and effective classes, communicate clearly, and provide options for different fitness levels and abilities.
Create an inclusive, fun, supportive class community with an inspiring and energetic approach.
Promote classes to retain participants and invite new participants.
Work regularly scheduled shifts during business hours and assist members and sell services in person.
