About The Position

The Group Fitness Instructor (GEI) will be responsible for designing/implementing and teaching safe and appropriate group exercise classes for members and guests. This role involves designing all class choreography, performing music selection, and determining appropriate equipment required for each fitness class. The instructor will learn and implement all choreography as designed by their respective certifying agency, ensuring that all exercise and equipment used is done safely and appropriately for the exercise class demographics. They will also ensure safety in the fitness spaces provided, including the multi-purpose aerobics room, the basketball gym, and the pool.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience leading a specific group fitness program, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Professional certification(s) as a General Group Exercise Instructor, and/or specific class-format certification(s), (i.e. Zumba).
  • Any major, widely-recognized specialty certification required to teach copyrighted classes (i.e. Zumba, Mad Dogg Spinning, etc.).
  • First Aid & CPR w/ AED Certifications (or ability to obtain within established timeframe).
  • Must be physically capable of meeting the demands of the fitness center & athletic programs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to meet attendance & punctuality requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Must be able to stand on one’s feet, kneel, stoop and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Instructors must always wear the appropriate Kroc Center uniform (as described in department documents) while working with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Designs/implements and teaches safe and appropriate group exercise classes for members and guests.

  • Learns and implements all choreography as designed by their respective certifying agency.
  • Ensures that all exercise and equipment used is done safely and appropriately for the exercise class demographics.
  • Ensures safety in fitness spaces provided: the multi-purpose aerobics room, the basketball gym, and the pool.
  • Provides excellent and courteous customer service to members.
  • Maintains awareness of and promotes all group fitness activities.
  • Encourages continuous attendance.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends and works with the supervisor to develop and enhance current and future class programming.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and continuing education requirements, based upon the class & certification needs.
  • Assists the supervisor with Kroc special event demos.
